You can turn out the sun but I'm still gonna shine. - J. Mraz.
I realized I enjoy entertaining others when I was 13. I auditioned for my high school's fall production of Peter Pan and landed the role of Tootles, (the lost boy who couldn't find his marbles!) I learned to whistle using my fingers and became infatuated with the amount of detail, perseverance and teamwork it takes to put on a theater production.
Eight years later, I graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor's in Integrative Public Relations and Public Affairs. Along the way, I served on staff at SpringHill Christian Camp, Group Workcamp Foundation and the CMU Volunteer Center, and attended mission trips in North Carolina for Habitat for Humanity and Galveston, Tex. after Hurricane Ike.
In post-graduation reflection, I've discovered my broad coursework in public relations writing and case studies, journalism, broadcasting, design and business ethics is NOT what has solely prepared me for my career. I became detail oriented, hard working, ambitious and learned how to be a true team player earlier than most. In the theater world, there is a saying, "There are no small parts, only small actors," that can be applied to every environment. My supplemental activities have given me a passion for others and have put me ahead of my peers because I know WHAT I want to do and HOW I want to spend my career--working in a team and using my skills towards a cause to better mankind.
My college courses and professional public relations internships at the Hungry Dudes, the March of Dimes - Flint, Mich. Division and at the University of Michigan Health System has refined my strong writing skills, professional working attitude, instincts in handling story pitches, media issues and promoting stories, and most importantly, my confidence in my ability to perform in the professional working world. I am ready.
